Selected ranges of our meat and poultry are processed to Red Tractor certified standards, complying with hygiene, animal welfare and environment objectives. This logo means that our product has met responsible production standards, fully traceable back to inspected farms.

BRC is a leading safety and quality certification program, used by over 21000 certificated suppliers in 90 countries. The standards guarantee the standardisation of quality, safety and operational criteria and ensure that manufacturers fulfil their legal obligations and provide protection for the end consumer. BRC global standards are now often a fundamental requirement of leading retailers.
Selected ranges of our meat and poultry are produced and processed to Halal certified standards, working with a supply chain approved by the Food Standards Agency. Our ranges produced to this standard assures the Muslim community that our food meets the high standards of Halal.
Previously know as Eblex, select ranges of our meat and poultry are processed to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Boards quality standard, meeting a minimum level of quality for a consistent processed meat. To meet these standards, our livestock must be sourced from farms operating in compliance with a scheme, and must be transported, slaughtered and processed in a manner meeting their criteria. Matthews are members of scheme and conform to the appropriate qulaity assurance criteria for our beef and lamb.
We are proud to be an approved independent supplier for several of the largest supermarket chains in the country. Working collaboratively with suppliers and farmers, supermarkets have stringent frameworks, processes, policies and guidance which must be followed to be considered as an approved supplier. Our commitment to the highest meat inspection standards are followed at all times.
This plant identification mark or approval number signifies that our plant is fully approved by the Food Standards Agency to operate as a cutting plant. Every five months our facility and headquarters must undergo an audit by the meat hygiene service to demonstrate conformance to UK and EU food safety legislation. Our customers can be confident that our products are prepared to meet legislative requirements.
We hold the BRC Global Standard for food safety and are annually audited against the standard by FoodChain ID. Compliance to the standard requires adoption of a fully implemented HACCP system, a documented quality management system, control of the factory environment, staff, operations and the process. In addition, we are certified under the voluntary beef labelling scheme which is also audited by the same body.
